The Pikeville 911 Center is held in the highest regards throughout the state of Kentucky as being one of the best 911 Centers. Currently the center operates twenty-four hours a day and the center employs seven full time Dispatchers that are certified through the Department of Criminal Justice Training. Each Dispatcher also receives continuing education throughout their careers. The areas in which they are trained are as follows: Criminal Justice Information systems, Emergency Medical Dispatch and critical incidents. Under emergency medical dispatch protocols, the Dispatcher provides crucial pre arrival instructions to the caller prior to an ambulances arrival. The City of Pikeville prides its self on having its own Enhanced 911 system for its citizens. We handle on an average of 11,000 calls for service per year that include Police, Fire, EMS, Animal Control and Public Works plus we also monitor gas pressure and water tank levels for the city after hours. We feel that we are one of the most technologically advanced call centers in the state. Our Dispatchers utilize a state of the art Computer Aided Dispatch system that went in effect in January of 2004 allowing for a better response from public safety responders. They also connect to other departments nationwide through the Criminal Justice Information System, which allows for better response from everyone in Public Safety. We also provide tours of the facility in conjunction with the Police Department to help educate the public on what we do. we provide education materials that are given out by officers and fireman to help educate the youth of the community on 911, police and fire safety, plus we provide small stuffed bears that are given out by officers and fireman to children that are victims of some type crime or accident.
