The Demo City Police Department is considered to be one of the best Departments statewide. All our officers are well-trained, highly motivated men and women. Each Officer receives extensive training and ongoing training through the Department of Criminal Justice Training.

Some of the areas of their continuing education include:

Accident reconstruction (three officers are certified Accident Reconstructionists)
Hostage negotiations
DUI techniques
Child and spouse abuse
Narcotics investigation.

Currently the department has twenty officers and provides twenty-four hour coverage for the citizens of Demo with average response time of five to seven minutes. Our Detective Division, with three full time Detectives, handle criminal, narcotic and abuse cases. We are currently in the process of starting a Citizens Academy that will be offered at no cost to the community. We also setup child seat inspection stations, to help educate the community on the importance of child car safety. We assist the Independent Schools with security during sporting events. We have a Neighborhood Watch program. During inclement weather, the Department ensures that critical employees, i.e. hospital employees, get to work by transporting them to their work place. We offer our training room to different organizations for use, such as the Boy and Girl Scouts. The Department, in conjunction with the 911 Center, provides tours of both departments to help educate people in what we do. The Demo City Police Department also participates with other agencies in joint ventures, such as the AHIDTA (Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area). The Department has a portable Speed Trailer that is deployed throughout the city where it has been identified for speeders. The Department also will be starting Special Response Team (Swat) in the near future. All of our officers are open to comments from the community to help improve the quality of life for the citizens. The City Commission is dedicated to ensuring that the Department is well equipped to handle any situation that may need a response from the Department.
